Launch of Queensland Road Safety Week

Launch of Queensland Road Safety Week

Queensland Road Safety Week will run this year between 21-25 August and is an opportunity for all Queenslanders to get involved in making our roads safer.

‘Speaking up for road safety’ is the focus and we’re encouraging the whole community to have their say on road safety.

Communities, schools and workplaces are encouraged to support the week by hosting local events or sharing road safety information among staff, students, colleagues, family and friends.

Why not host a morning tea at work or have a free dress day at school? Perhaps invite the local Adopt-a-Cop to speak to students, or host a road safety quiz in your office. You can share a personal story, suggest a road safety tip, talk to your kids, family and friends about staying safe, or make a pledge to improve a single road behaviour.

Queensland Road Safety Week is also about encouraging the community to challenge the status quo. Let’s stop accepting death and serious injury as just part and parcel of using our roads.

Speak up. Be heard. Make Queensland’s 2017 Road Safety Week an important event in your community’s calendar.

Monday’s theme is speed and we are encouraging everyone to make a pledge to commit to improving a single road behaviour.

Speed remains one of our biggest issues in Queensland with more than 1000 people either killed or injured in crashes where speed was a factor in Queensland every year. We urge driver and riders to check their speed, drive or ride to the conditions and stay within the limits.
