Crime Stoppers launches Operation Roam: Rogue Radar
National Operation Roam is back again for another year and Queenslanders are being asked to help with find criminals wanted in connection with various offences around the state.
Crime Stoppers, a community organisation, is calling on members of the public to stay alert and be on the lookout for 18 wanted fugitives named on the ‘Rogue Radar’ list. The offenders are currently at large and potentially hidden in plain sight in communities across Australia.
Community Contact Command Acting Assistant Commissioner David Tucker said Operation Roam was a great initiative with a successful history of tracking down those wanted by law enforcement agencies across the country.
“The Queensland Police Service is proud to be working in partnership with Crime Stoppers and their highly successful annual Operation Roam, targeting wanted people in Australia,” Acting Assistant Commissioner Tucker said.
“Each year our unique partnership with Crime Stoppers has yielded outstanding results and this year there are four Queensland targets and we hope the public will assist with identifying the location of them all.
“Operation Roam exists because these offenders like to roam around the country, ensuring they can settle somewhere no one recognises them.
“These people go rogue, leaving the communities where they are known and create a life for themselves somewhere else.
“We urge you to keep an eye out for anyone who looks familiar to the descriptions and photos provided, and report any information you have to Crime Stoppers.”
Crime Stoppers Queensland CEO Mr Trevor O’Hara asked Queenslanders to visit crimestoppers.com.au to make themselves aware of the people on the Rogue Radar list.
“The individuals named in this year’s Operation Roam are responsible for a range of offences, including murder, drug trafficking and possession, grievous bodily harm, armed robbery and dishonesty fraud,” Mr O’Hara said.
“These criminals could be working alongside you in your community. It might be a new person you’ve noticed in your area or a more familiar face such as a neighbour, work colleague, customer, friend or even a family relative.
“We ask members of the public to put these faces on your radar but do not approach them under any circumstances. Simply contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, report your information online via crimestoppersqld.com.au or download our mobile app to report information.”
Operation Roam: Rogue Radar will run from August 21 to 27.
Four fugitives are wanted in New South Wales, four in Queensland, six in Victoria, three in South Australia and one in the Northern Territory however, each fugitive could be anywhere in the country.
“We thank the Queensland Police Service for their strong support. Last year 11 of 19 offenders were located. Together with the media and public, we are helping to keep local Queensland communities safe,” Mr O’Hara said.
