Queensland Road Safety Week – Speeding
Today’s theme is speed and we are encouraging everyone to make a pledge – to commit to improving a single road behaviour.
Speed remains one of our biggest issues in Queensland with more than 1,000 people either killed or injured in crashes where speed was a factor in Queensland every year. For this reason, there will be a focus to remind all drivers and riders to check their speed, drive/ride to the conditions, and stay within the limits.
Put the brakes on speeding
• Regularly check your speed when you’re driving.
• If weather and/or road conditions are poor, slow down.
• Don’t follow too closely – leave a two second gap.
Visit Join The Drive for event information and to find out how you can get involved and follow the conversation on social media using the hashtag #SpeakUpforRoadSafety.
Queensland Road Safety Week is a chance for all Queenslanders to be involved in making our roads safer.
‘Speaking up for road safety’ is the focus and we’re encouraging the whole community to have their say.
Communities, schools, sporting groups and workplaces are encouraged to support the Week through hosting local events or sharing road safety information among staff, students, colleagues, family and friends.
You can share a personal story, suggest a road safety tip, talk to your kids, family and friends about staying safe, or make a pledge to improve just one thing to be safer on the road.
Each day of the Week will focus on different road safety issues, kicking off with speed on Monday, drink and drug driving on Tuesday, distractions, seatbelts and child restraints on Wednesday, sharing the road on Thursday and fatigue on Friday.
