Drink driver charged after crashing at Eubenangee roadworks

A 41-year-old Cow Bay man was charged with high range drink driving on Monday night. Around 8pm he collided with another vehicle whilst travelling through the roadworks on the Bruce Highway, Eubenangee.

It will be alleged the man returned a reading of 0.188 per cent BAC.

His licence was suspended and he is due to appear at the Innisfail Magistrates court on August 21.

Investigations are continuing in relation to the traffic crash.

The driver of the other vehicle was transported to Innisfail Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Today’s theme for Road Safety Week is drink and drug driving.

Drinking alcohol and consuming illegal drugs reduces your ability to drive safely.

If affects your judgement, vision, coordination and reflexes and increases the risk of you being involved in a crash.

Alcohol and drugs can:
• make it hard for you to concentrate on driving
• slow down reaction times
• reduce your ability to do more than one thing at a time
• affect your vision and hearing
• make you feel more confident, which may lead you to take unnecessary risks
• relax you, increasing your chances of falling asleep while driving
• make simple tasks more difficult.

Police want to remind drivers that they can be stopped anywhere, any time. You could meet us anywhere, on any road. It doesn’t matter if it is rural, remote or a major highway.

If you have information for police, contact Policelink on 131 444 or provide information using the online form 24hrs per day.
