Ooh la la… Slow down on Queensland roads
A French National tourist has been fined after allegedly being detected travelling 146km/hr in a 100km/hr on the Bruce Highway at Rollingstone yesterday afternoon.
Officers from the Townsville Road Policing Unit observed the Nissan Elegra campervan travelling at an excessive speed on the Bruce Highway north of Rollingstone at approximately 3.30pm.
Police recorded the vehicle’s speed of 146km/hr using their mobile radar device and issued the French man with a traffic infringement notice for $1177.
When questioned by Police as to why he was travelling as such a high speed, the driver stated he was trying to find a nearby waterfall and was completely oblivious of the speed limit.
Speed remains one of our biggest issues on Queensland roads with more than 1,000 people killed or injured in crashes every year, where speed is a contributing factor.
For this reason, we are here to remind all drivers and riders to check their speed, drive to the road conditions and stay within the limits.
