Turning the Screws on Crime event this Thursday
Come along and join police in turning the screws on crime. Townsville Police are joining forces with local groups to help reduce number plate thefts.
Police are urging the community to get behind this campaign, and encourage all residents to come along and have the one way screws installed on their vehicles.
Where: Domain Central Complex, Coffee club side car park
When: Thursday, August 24
Time: 5:30pm to 8:30pm
Local police, police recruits and volunteers will be there to replace the screws, as well as talking to motorists on vehicle security and safety. The replacement of the screws only takes a few minutes and can prevent the inconvenience of having your number plates stolen.
Police will be asking for a gold coin donation per vehicle, with all proceeds going to local Neighbourhood Watch groups so that future Turning the Screws on Crime community events can continue.
To date, nearly 1500 cars have seized the opportunity to have their number plate screws replaced with the special ‘one way screws’ in an attempt to reduce number plate theft in Townsville.
