Wear it Purple day
This year the QPS supported Wear it Purple Day on August 25. The day provides a platform to raise community awareness and empower Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Intersex (LGBTI) young people to know they are not alone and have the right to be proud of who they are.
Purple ribbons and purple shoelaces were available for purchase from the Townsville Station dayroom and everybody was encouraged to wear their LGBTI lanyards or pins in support.
Senior Constable Leah Lafrank from Townsville Station attended Headspace who run a Rainbow Group fortnightly for LGBTI youth aged 12-25.
Mundingburra Station raised $58.50 in four hours on the morning of Wear it Purple Day and this money will go towards programs for young people.
Officers, PLO’s and locals from Palm Island got together to display their support for LGBTI.
