Turning the screws on crime on Townsville
Police from District Crime Prevention, Townsville Station and recruits from the Townsville Police Academy were in attendance at Domain Central on Thursday August 24 for a Turning the Screws on Crime event.
The idea of this initiative is to encourage members of the public to attend with their vehicles to have a one way screw fitted to their number plate. Their number plates are removed along with the old screws and a new one way screw is fitted to prevent number plates being removed.
Once these are fitted they can only be removed by a special tool. This is to prevent petrol drive offs and other crimes which have involved incorrect plates fitted to unregistered vehicles or fitted to stolen vehicles.
