Ingham State High School party safe

Year 9 students received a visit from QPS, QAS and medical workers in relation to information on alcohol and drugs.

The students were told about the effects that cannabis can have on a young persons brain and that using drugs is illegal. Police don’t want to stop people from having fun but it needs to be in control and not illegal.

Beer goggles (fatal vision goggles) were used to give the effect of someone that may be under the influence of alcohol so they have an understanding of some of the changes to their body in relation to lack of coordination, change of vision and being unaware of their current surroundings.

The students participated in wearing the beer goggles whilst trying to catch a ball or attempting to walk in a straight line.

The students were given information on how to register a party, keeping guests well hydrated and fed and being accountable to guests that have been invited. They were also given information to suppling alcohol to minors and being in possession of alcohol. The students were advised of the legislation and fines that can be issued to persons that have an event that becomes out of control.

Parents were also given information about an invitation to attend an presentation night  scheduled for November. The presentation will be given to parents to educate them on keeping their kids safe around alcohol and drugs.
