Motorists put people and koalas lives at risk

Police conducting traffic enforcement are disappointed at the behaviour of motorists along Tallebudgera Connection Road over the weekend. Police issued several infringement notices for speeds well in excess of the 60 km/h speed limit.

One driver intercepted at 96km/h also tested positive on an RBT and was sent to court for an alleged reading of .058% and issued with an infringement notice for $588 d0llars.  His reason, trying to get a game of golf in before the sun went down. The driver was given a notice to appear in Southport Court on September 12.  Peoples lives are always our priority but is very frustrating to see these speeds when there are massive wildlife warning signs and clearly marked speed signs in the area.

Locals and wildlife organisations have worked with council to get the signage implemented and it is disappointing to see the blatant disregard. Further frustrating police efforts was this sign located on Tallebudgera Connection Road. After intercepting a driver with a surfboard protruding from the window, police located this sign, paint still wet.  Motorists are travelling at huge speeds well above the 60 speed limit and they need to be caught as what they are doing endangers lives, human and animals.
On Saturday night police also intercepted a motorist travelling at 91 km/hr on 19th Avenue Elanora who also tested positive on an RBT and was sent to court for an alleged reading of .053%.  The reason, collecting a pizza.  The driver was issued with a notice to appear in court on September 11.

Travelling at those speeds, as well as being intoxicated is a recipe for disaster. Even striking a koala could cause a serious accident. Police are urging motorists to take care along this stretch of road.
