Multiple drink drivers, Ayr
Ayr Police have been appalled at the lack of responsibility taken by a number of drivers in and around Ayr over the past weekend.
A total of four drink drivers were apprehended in 20 hours, one almost five times the legal limit and another almost four times the legal limit. The danger this behaviour poses to other road users and the community in general is substantial and shows a total lack of regard for other road users.
Friday August 25: At 2pm, Ayr Police intercepted a vehicle on Five Ways Road, Brandon, having just travelled from Townsville. In fact, a complaint had been received regarding the behaviour of the occupants of this vehicle near Alligator Creek less than an hour prior to interception.
As a result of further testing at Ayr Police Station, the driver, a 26-year-old Burdekin woman, was issued a notice to appear for drink driving, having recorded an alleged result of 0.119 per cent BAC. Her driver’s licence was immediately suspended pending her court appearance.
She is due to appear in Ayr Magistrates Court on September 20.
At 9.50pm, Ayr Police intercepted a vehicle on Edwards Street, Ayr. As a result of further testing at Ayr Police Station, the driver, a 25-year-old Burdekin woman, was issued a notice to appear for drink driving, having recorded an alleged result of 0.119 per cent BAC. His driver’s licence was immediately suspended pending her court appearance.
He is now due to appear in Ayr Magistrates Court on August 30.
At 11pm, Ayr Police attended an incident in Spiller Street, Brandon. During the course of the investigation, it will be alleged that a 47-year-old Burdekin woman had been driving a vehicle. Further testing at Ayr Police Station found the woman had an alleged breath alcohol concentration of 0.195 per cent.
She is due to appear in Ayr Magistrates Court on September 13.
Saturday August 26: Ayr Road Policing Unit Police intercepted a vehicle on Hughes Road, Brandon. The driver was found to have an alleged breath alcohol concentration of 0.242 per cent, almost five times the legal limit, and was charged with drink driving. The registration plates of the vehicle were confiscated for seven days.
He is due to appear in Ayr Magistrates Court on September 20.
