Robbery with violence, East Mackay

Mackay police are investigating an incident in which a photographer was assaulted and robbed on Binnington Esplanade in East Mackay, near Town Beach, on August 28.

Around 7:30 pm, the 25-year-old man was waiting for a lift after having taken some photos in the area.

It is alleged that three males approached him and asked him for a cigarette.

On answering “no”, one of the three males punched the 25-year-old to the right side of his jaw, knocking him to the ground and knocking him unconscious for a short time.

Upon regaining consciousness, the photographer returned to his feet and realised his camera bag had been stolen.  His camera bag contained the following items:

  • sandisk SD card 128 gb
  • WD 2TB pro hard drive
  • apple macbook pro laptop with a 13″ screen
  • camera batteries
  • camera tripod
  • sony camera lenses
  • sony a72 black camera
  • black LOWEPRO camera bag (writing in orange)
  • iPhone 7 plus

The following descriptions have been provided to police:

  • Male one: Indigenous in appearance, 185cm tall, 90 – 95kg, dark complexion, bald head. At the time of the incident, he was wearing dark blue jeans, white shoes, black hooded jumper with a white motif on the upper right chest.
  • Male two: Caucasian in appearance, tall and thin build, old/weathered complexion, with a tattoo on left side of neck.  At the time of the incident, he was wearing a red and black flanelette shirt, dark board shorts and thongs.
  • Male three: Pale complexion, dark coloured t-shirt.
