Serious traffic crash, Cowley
Police are investigating a serious single vehicle traffic crash that occurred at Cowley this evening (September 3).
Initial information suggests at 5.30pm on Cowley Beach Road, the dual cab utility travelling west came into contact with an embankment, causing the vehicle to roll several times before coming to rest on its roof.
The 24-year-old male driver was thrown from the vehicle during the incident. He was taken to Innisfail Hospital and later airlifted to Townsville Hospital with serious injuries.
A 26-year-old female passenger was trapped by the arm under the vehicle for a short period before being transported to Innisfail Hospital in a serious condition.
A three-year-old girl also in the ute at the time of the crash was restrained in a child seat and sustained only minor injuries not requiring medical treatment.
No other persons were injured as a result of the crash.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
