Girl charged over weekend blazes: A Gordonvale girl aged 13 has been charged following two fires in the Gordonvale area on Saturday.

It will be alleged the girl set fire to a grassed area beside Leonis Access, opposite the Gordonvale golf course at about 1:30pm, before setting fire to another grassed area within the confines of the golf course some minutes later.

Police evacuated two homes in Newman Close and used garden hoses to prevent damage to fences at the properties.

QFES officers attended and brought that fire under control.

The blaze within the golf course crossed a boundary and entered the agricultural area of a nearby high school but was subsequently brought under control by fire officers. Fortunately, no properties were lost or damaged as a result of the fires.

An investigation commenced into the cause of the fires and police attended a Gordonvale address just after 4:30pm where the girl was taken into custody.

She was charged with one count each of lighting an unauthorised fire and endangering property by fire.

Burglary charge, Parramatta Park: A Parramatta Park man was charged on Friday following investigations into a burglary incident last week.

Entry was forced to a residence at a Minnie Street accommodation complex between 5pm and 7pm on Wednesday and a satchel containing a small amount of cash and documents was stolen.

The property was subsequently located in the front yard of the complex after apparently being dropped by the offender as they fled the scene.

Cairns Property Crime Squad officers attended a Parramatta Park address at around 10am on Friday where a 47-year-old man was taken into custody.

He was charged with burglary and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on September 26.

Burglary and weapon charge, Manunda: Police charged an 11-year-old Manunda boy on Saturday following investigations into two separate incidents at Manunda.

It will be alleged the boy unlawfully entered a Warner Street residence on May 22, and stole a laptop and a tablet style computer from an office area. He was disturbed by the home owner and dropped the items before fleeing on foot.

It will be further alleged that at around 6pm on Friday evening, the boy was armed with a kitchen knife in the street outside his home address following a disturbance.

Cairns Property Crime Squad officers spoke with the boy on Saturday evening and he was charged with one count each of burglary and possession of a knife in public.

Appeal for witnesses to a three vehicle traffic crash, Edmonton: Police are investigating a three vehicle traffic crash that occurred on Friday at Bentley Park.

It will be alleged that around 5:45pm, a white Ford Falcon sedan and a green Holden Commodore appeared to be racing in the southbound lanes of the Bruce Highway near the intersection of Robert Road.

The white Ford then crashed into the rear of a white Toyota Corolla sedan that was stopped at traffic lights. The stationary sedan was hit at speed and collided into the rear of a silver Holden sedan.

The 31-year-old female driver of the Toyota sustained suspected spinal injuries, concussion and bruising to her hip and was transported to the Cairns Hospital for medical treatment.

Edmonton police are appealing for any motorists who may have dash camera vision of either the alleged street racing activity or the crash itself, to make contact.
