Kowanyama Police raise awareness of suicide prevention at Rodeo

Congratulations Craig!

Last month the annual Kowanyama Rodeo kicked off a weekend of non stop action.

Spectators came from near and far with plenty of support from outlying communities throughout the Cape.

The rodeo not only showcases Kowanyama as a destination, but more importantly to help create future pathways for the young men and women of the community with it being the dream of many young up and coming local bull riders to forge their way onto the professional bull riding circuit.

This year the Kowanyama Police Social Club donated $500 in prize money and a memorial trophy in honour of a highly respected and talented young bull rider, who fell victim to youth suicide.

Kowanyama’s Constable Nyree Juniper said the Kowanyama Police social club felt strongly about donating the prize money and trophy as they want to raise awareness of support services available in an effort to prevent youth suicide in the community.

“The prize money and trophy will be awarded annually to the most outstanding up and coming bull rider,” Constable Juniper said.

“This year the worthy winner was Craig Goggleye.”

Kowanyama police want to raise awareness of support services available to people in the community in an effort to prevent other families from having to endure the loss of a loved family member
