Operation Papa Tombaugh Closure, Fraser Coast
Detectives from Hervey Bay and Maryborough have today concluded a 12-month operation targeting trafficking and supply of methylamphetamine on the Fraser Coast.
Officers working on Operation Papa Tombaugh executed a number of search warrants in Hervey Bay, Craignish, Maryborough and West Brisbane over the past few days, arresting and charging 17 people (aged between 21 and 40) on a total of 171 offences.
The charges range from trafficking, supplying and possessing dangerous drugs, as well as proceed of crime and weapons act offences.
All are due to appear in local magistrate courts in Hervey Bay, Maryborough or Brisbane in the next fortnight.
Of these, a 36-year-old Dundowran woman has been charged with 73 offences including trafficking and supplying dangerous drugs, as well as receiving tainted property. She is due to appear in the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court today.
A 36-year-old woman from Aldershot was charged with 23 offences including trafficking, supplying and possessing dangerous drugs. She is due to appear in the Maryborough Magistrates Court today.
Detective Senior Sergeant David Briese, Officer-In-Charge of Maryborough Criminal Investigation Branch said further charges can be expected.
“This has been a protracted investigation into a syndicate responsible for alleged large-scale distribution of methylamphetamine on the Fraser Coast,” Detective Senior Sergeant Briese said.
“The recent arrests will have serious impacts upon the distribution of these illicit drugs in our community.”
