Youths charged over thefts from vehicles, Cairns area:  Two men aged 18 from Woree and Cairns North, and three boys aged 13, 14 and 16 from Whitfield, Manunda and Bungalow were yesterday charged following investigations into a large number of thefts from vehicles.

Cairns Property Crime Squad officers located the males at a Sondrio Street address just before 10.30am yesterday and they were taken into custody.

They were charged with a total of 54 offences comprising multiple counts of entering premises and stealing, trespass and other property offences.

The charges relate to the forced entry and theft of property mainly from vehicles parked in unit complex carparks at Woree and Mooroobool over the past three days.

The Cairns North man is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court later this morning, with the Woree man due to appear in the same court on October 10.

The three youths will be dealt with under the provisions of The Youth Justice Act 1992.

Vehicle theft and stealing charges, Cairns:  A 20-year-old Manunda man was yesterday charged as part of investigations into a number of property matters.

It will be alleged the man stole a motor vehicle from a Manunda address in the early hours of September 11.

It will be further alleged that the man subsequently stole fuel from a Manoora fuel station and a carton of beer from a Manoora bottle shop later that night.

Cairns Property Crime Squad officers located and arrested the man yesterday morning where he was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and two counts of stealing.

He is expected to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on October 3.  Investigations into the incident are continuing.
