PSPA declared, Surfers Paradise

Police have declared an emergency situation this evening in Surfers Paradise this evening.

Officers were called to a disturbance at a unit just after 6pm on The Esplanade.

When officers arrived at the scene, a man inside a unit started making threats and began throwing items from the balcony.

A declaration was made under the Public Safety Preservation Act at 7.20pm and covers the Esplanade between Clifford and Laycock Streets as well as the beach.

Negotiators and police remain at the scene.
