Ever wondered what it takes to ensure you have a safe night out?
If you enjoy going out and socialising, chances are you have been out to one of Mackay’s many great venues. Before you get to have a good night out on the town, police do a bit of ground work behind the scenes to make sure that the licensed premises you are visiting is going to be able to provide a safe place for you to have a meal or a drink or two.
On a quiet Tuesday night, I got to patrol and see the hard work that our Liquor Enforcement Officer does to make sure that this happens. From the Harbour to Slade Point and out to the Northern Beaches, I got to inspect premises, conduct walk-throughs and speak to staff and patrons.
As police we ensure that licensed premises are complying with requirements to keep a safe and clean environment, deal with issues of responsible service of alcohol and identify any breaches to the Liquor Act.
Encouragingly, we can report all premises we visited met our requirements with the compliance inspection and acknowledged the importance of these types of visits by police.
