Multiple property charges, Cairns: Cairns Property Crime Squad officers have been extremely busy this weekend with some 20 vehicles stolen from Gordonvale in the south to the Northern Beaches.

Officers charged a total of six people with a total of 50 property related offences over the weekend, some of which relate to burglaries and stolen vehicles.

One incident saw members of the Cairns Tactical Crime Squad intercept a stolen vehicle on the Esplanade at about 9:40pm yesterday by parking behind the vehicle as they pulled into a carpark. Officers from the TCS detained three of the four occupants. The fourth was later apprehended and all four charged.

It’s alleged the four occupants were involved in the theft of a vehicle from a property in Welsh Street, Rosslea sometime between 11pm Sunday and 2am Monday.

In another incident, it’s alleged a group of teens smashed their way into a business in Barnard Drive, Mount Sheridan at about 5:10am on Saturday before stealing a quantity of alcohol and fleeing in three vehicles.

Charges are as follows:

  • A 14-year-old Bentley Park girl was charged with a total 23 offences including six counts of burglary, five counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, four counts of unlicenced driving, three counts of stealing, one count each of enter premises and commit by break, enter premises and commit, enter premises with intent, attempt to enter premises with intent and fail to stop a motor vehicle.
  • An 18-year-old Aloomba man was charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing and entering dwelling with intent.
  • A 15-year-old Aloomba boy was charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
  • A 16-year-old Townsville boy was charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing and enter dwelling with intent.
  • A 19-year-old Westcourt woman was charged with a total of seven offences including two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, one count each of enter premises and commit, enter premises with intent, burglary and commit, burglary and attempted enter premises with intent.
  • A 15-year-old White Rock boy was charged with a total of 13 offences including three counts each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and unlicenced driving, four counts of stealing, one count each of burglary, fail to stop motor vehicle and enter dwelling with intent.
  • The 19-year-old woman is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today whilst the 18-year-old man is scheduled to appear on October 16.

Community members help catch car thief, Mount Sheridan: Police were called to a traffic crash and roll multiple times on Forest Gardens Boulevard at about 8.45am on Saturday when they were flagged down by a member of the public who witnessed the crash and saw three people run from the scene.

Another member of the community ran after one of the occupants and demanded she stop, to which she did. The 19-year-old Westcourt woman was arrested at the scene and police commenced their investigation.

It will be alleged the vehicle was stolen from a home in Derrick Street Redlynch sometime between 9pm Friday and 7am on Saturday.

The 19-year-old woman was charged with one count each of burglary and unlawful use of a motor vehicle whilst a 14-year-old Bentley Park girl was charged with one count each of burglary, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and unlicensed driving.

Investigations are continuing to locate the third person involved.

Drug trafficking charges, Cooktown: Cooktown Police yesterday charged a 41-year-old Wongabel man and a 40-year-old Cooktown man with a total of 17 drug related charges.

It will be alleged uniform officers stopped a vehicle on Boundary Street Cooktown and conducted a search before locating a quantity of cannabis, utensils, drug production instructions and electronic storage devices.

The 41-year-old man was charged with one count of trafficking in dangerous drugs, 10 counts of supply dangerous drugs, one count each of possess instructions, possess things, possess utensils and fail to dispose of a syringe.

The 40-year-old man was charged with one count each of possess dangerous drugs and possess utensils.

Both men are scheduled to appear in the Cooktown Magistrates Court on December 7.

Appeal for information into multiple property offences, Mooroobool: Police are investigating the theft of a silver Mitsubishi Outlander sedan from a property in McCoombe Street Westcourt sometime between 2am and 2:40am on Sunday.

Access was gained to the yard via an open roller door and then into the home via an open rear door.

Keys to the vehicle were located in a handbag hanging on a rack in the dining room before the offenders stole the vehicle.

The vehicle was then driven to a shopping complex in Swallow Street, Mooroobool before the vehicle was driven into the front doors of a business multiple times before occupants entered and stole property.

The group have then entered a small dark coloured hatchback sedan, removed items and then drove off.

Police woke the owner of the silver Mitsubishi Outlander and advised that her vehicle had been stolen.

Police are continuing their investigations.
