Evade police, Aitkenvale
A man has been charged following an incident at Aitkenvale yesterday where a vehicle was allegedly driven repeatedly into a police car.
It will be alleged around 3.15pm officers from the Townsville Tactical Crime Squad observed a vehicle bearing two different number plates pull into a service station located on Ross River Road.
As officers attempted to intercept the car it then allegedly reversed before being driven directly at the police car.
The driver allegedly continued to reverse his vehicle and ram the police car repeatedly, narrowly missing fuel bowsers, before fleeing the scene.
At around 3.30pm police conducting patrols on Leopard Street at Aitkenvale attempted to intercept the same vehicle however the driver allegedly failed to stop.
Officers later attended an address in Thuringowa where a man allegedly attempted to flee, running from police and hiding in a nearby backyard. He was located and taken into custody without further incident.
A 32-year-old Belgian Gardens man was charged with two counts of fail to stop motor vehicle and one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, obstruct police, driving without a licence (disqualified), trespass, possession of dangerous drugs and failure to take reasonable precaution with syringe.
He was due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court today.
