Cairns Overnight Wrap – Wednesday October 4

Arson charges, Lockhart River: Police have charged overnight a 30-year-old Lockhart River man with one count each of arson and wilful damage.

It will be alleged around 6:30pm yesterday the man set fire to a vehicle on Taylors Landing Road.

The vehicle belonged to a 24-year-old woman who was known to the man. The vehicle was completely destroyed as a result of the fire.

The man is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court tomorrow.  

Property charges, Cairns: Cairns Property Crime Squad yesterday charged a 17-year-old Mooroobool man with five counts of burglary, three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts of enter premises and one count of unlicenced driving.

It will be alleged the man burgled properties in Brinsmead, Edge Hill, Yorkeys Knob and Trinity Beach over the weekend before stealing vehicles and other property items.

He is scheduled to appear on the Cairns Magistrates Court today.
