Annandale residents urged to lock up

Townsville police are urging residents in the Annandale area to ensure their homes are secure at all times after a series of burglaries occurred in the area over the past week.

Thieves targeted homes in Eucalyptus Avenue, Boronia Drive, Brazier Drive and  Verbena Court stealing various items of property including car keys, wallets, mobile phones and vehicles.

Acting Senior Sergeant Pat McCarthy from the Townsville Rapid Action and Patrols said the past few days have seen an increase in break and enters in the Annandale area where opportunistic thieves have taken advantage of homes that have been left unlocked.

“I urge all residence to be mindful of their home security even when at home,” Acting Senior Sergeant McCarthy said.

“Let’s make it as hard as possible for thieves to enter your home and steal your property by locking the security door with the key even when your home, keeping valuables out of sight and hiding your car keys will reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime.”

Remember it only takes one minute to lock it or lose it.
