Queensland Police Legacy a winner in Weipa

Weipa Police are overwhelmed by the support from the Weipa Community and local businesses

Last month as police and the community stopped to remember our fallen colleagues during National Police Remembrance Day (NPRD), Weipa Police went one step further.

Weipa Police invited the community to join them for a NPRD ceremony at Saint Luke’s Church to honour those officers who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.

As morning turned to afternoon, our officers organised barefoot bowls and pizza at the local Weipa Bowls Club as well as a monster raffle and money board to help raise funds for Queensland Police Legacy.

The Queensland Police Legacy focuses on providing assistance the the families of our deceased Queensland Police officers as well as meeting the educational expenses of their dependant children.

Some of the amazing raffle prizes included an outdoor table setting (not pictured).

The Weipa Police Social Club kicked off with prize donations and it wasn’t long before Mitre 10, Weipa Tackle World, Weipa Electrical, The Heritage Resort, Weipa Community Care, Amanda Millard and Weipa Camping Supplies all generously donated prized that were raffled off on the day.

Local police did approach a number of other businesses, with many digging deep into pockets to donate funds for our Queensland Police Legacy.

The Weipa Bowls Club donated a massive $1000 along wtih the bowling fees for the night.

Weipa Real Estate donated $200 and Weipa Community Care donated $175 which they raised from selling blue coloured food items at their café during the week of NPRD.

Senior Constable Sandy Gardiner from Weipa Police expressed her heartfelt thanks to the Weipa community for their efforts in raising a very impressive $3000 for Queensland Police Legacy.

“I’m overwhelmed by the generosity shown by the Weipa community to our local police and of course the efforts they’ve gone to, to help raise $3000 for our Queensland Police Legacy,” Senior Constable Gardiner said.

“Weipa Police are extremely appreciative of the unbelievable community support shown to us all and we are very grateful for the generosity shown to us all.

“Thank you Weipa.”
