Once, twice… 27 fraudulent pay wave transactions
The victim in this matter has lost possession of her visa debit card and bank card on September 20 – it was allegedly stolen from a Sarina address.
Over a short period of time the cards were used in no fewer than 27 fraudulent pay wave transactions between Mackay and Rockhampton. Crooks work fast when they have stolen bank cards in their hands.
This matter was reported to police on October 16 when the discrepencies were identified against the relevant accounts.
Police encourage residents to monitor their bank accounts closely through on-line methods if possible. Early identification of fraudulent activity can reduce the damage, so to speak. If you identify suspicious or fraudulent activity against your accounts – speak to your financial institution as soon as possible, and follow that up with a call to your local police.
