Update – Marine search and rescue, Middle Island
An extensive air and water search for the crew of a commercial fishing boat reported missing in waters near Middle Island, north of the Town of 1770 last night, has so far failed to locate any sign of the vessel or crew.
Water Police have coordinated the search which commenced this morning and has involved helicopters, police, Volunteer Marine Rescue and a number of other vessels patrolling of the shoreline and inlets.
Broadcasts across the marine radio network continue in an attempt to raise the missing boat, as well as alerting vessels in the area.
While the search has now been suspended due to fading light and deteriorating weather conditions in the area police will resume at first light tomorrow.
