Operation Sentinel Unite – united for a safer community

Operation Sentinel Unite – united for a safer community

Last week the Queensland Police Service, Commonwealth Games Group launched Operation Sentinel UNITE – a crime prevention response for detecting, deterring and disrupting criminal and terrorist activity.

UNITE is a three-tiered security awareness project that was developed alongside national security guidelines and as part of the QPS commitment to deliver a safe and secure Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

It includes the Behaviour Observation and Suspicious Activity Recognition (BOSAR) training for police which was launched earlier this year; Project UNITE a community safety awareness project and Unified Response aimed at providing businesses with key security information.

Project Unite reinforces the Australian National Security message ‘If it doesn’t add up, speak up’, and encourages all Queenslanders to report suspicious activity to the National Security Hotline by calling 1800 123 400.

Unified Response is designed to provide businesses with key information on how to respond to a critical incident between the time it occurs and emergency responders arriving at the scene.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads, official Games organisers GOLDOC and the City of Gold Coast are amongst those that have partnered with the QPS to deliver the Sentinel Unite message that we are all ‘United for a safer community’.

Both Project Unite and Unified Response public awareness campaigns will run before the Commonwealth Games. Officers from various organisations will be holding community engagement sessions at local shops, sporting events and transport hubs.
