Farewell from Kowanyama
It’s the end of an era for two Kowanyama officers.
After four years in Kowanyama, Acting Senior Sergeant Peter Simpson and Constable Travis Clark are set to pack their bags and head south with Acting Senior Sergeant Simpson returning to Cairns and Constable Clark moving to the northern beaches beat at Smithfield Station.
With some 1,200 people living in and around Kowanyama, Acting Senior Sergeant Simpson says it’s near impossible walking to the shop without someone stopping you for a chat.
“I’ve been a police officer for a number of years now and it’s just a completely different way of policing as you know everyone in town and they all know you,” Acting Senior Sergeant Simpson said.
“I’d definitely recommend remote policing to all officers.
“Whilst it’s not easy working in the Cape, it’s well worth the effort as it’s a great opportunity to give back to a community. Plus the fishing isn’t bad either.”
