Police from Cairns Road Policing Unit recently performed a ten-day enforcement trip through the Far North Queensland Cape to support local police and provide a road policing enforcement presence in these areas.

Sergeant Greg Rose and Senior Constable Damien West departed Cairns and firstly patrolled through to Pormpuraaw.

They remained at Pormpuraaw for a few days and assisted local Police at the Pormpuraaw Rodeo where they performed their usual road policing role.

In addition they also assisted in general duties policing at the rodeo where they had the opportunity to watch the impressive bull riding skills on display by the local entrants.

From Pormpuraaw they patrolled through to Kowanyama.

They remained in Kowanyama for a few days patrolling in the community itself.

After a few days at Kowanyama it was onto Chillagoe and then back to Cairns.

Sergeant Rose said the Cairns Road Policing Unit regularly patrolled the more remote parts of the state.

“We want to remind drivers although you may not be driving on a main road in a big city, you may still be stopped by the Police when you are travelling,” Sergeant Rose said.

“Please ensure you obey all the road rules and in the remote parts of the state, drive to the prevailing road conditions.”
