Suspected stolen gemstones, Nambour
Nambour police are appealing for public assistance to help locate the owner/s of a large number of gemstones that were located at Yandina earlier this year.
Local police discovered the gemstones hidden inside a thermos during a search of a handbag at Yandina on June 2nd.
The handbag was found during a search for drugs of a vehicle. A 33-year-old Nambour women, was subsequently charged with possession of a dangerous drug (cannabis), fail to dispose of a syringe and unlawful possession of a category A weapon.
The woman denied ownership of the handbag with local police then tracking down the owner of the bag, a 30-year-old Wurtulla woman. She has been assisting police with their inquiries into the suspected stolen gemstones. Both women are known to each other.
The stones, which number close to 100, are professionally packaged and believed to be worth a considerable amount of money, with one gem alone valued at around $50,000. It is possible they were stolen interstate, and perhaps New South Wales.
The gemstones include diamonds, emeralds, rubies and sapphires.
