Update: Dangerous operation charge, Ipswich District

Police have charged a man following a number of incidents involving alleged stolen vehicles in the Ipswich area yesterday.

Officers were called to a number of rural properties yesterday following reports of a man in a ute allegedly acting suspiciously in the area.

Inquiries made by police identified the ute was allegedly stolen from Greenslopes on Thursday.

Police were informed at 8.30am, the vehicle was at a quarry at Purga, with workers having blocked the ute in with their machinery.

The man then allegedly fled the scene on foot and stole another vehicle from a property nearby.

Police followed this stolen vehicle to Warwick Road in Yamanto where it was abandoned.

The man then allegedly forced the driver and a passenger of a passing car out of their vehicle and as police arrived on scene, the man locked himself in the car.

Police were forced to smash the window and the man was then taken into custody.

A 29-year-old Riverview man has been charged with unlawful entry of a vehicle whilst armed, two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and stealing, three counts of wilful damage and unlicensed driving and one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, assault and failing to stop.

He is due to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday, October 30.
