Animal cruelty charge, South Mackay

A South Mackay man has been charged with an animal cruelty offence after an alleged incident at 5.30pm on August 13 on Boddington Street, South Mackay.

It’s alleged that the man was travelling on Boddington Street in a car and has accelerated intentionally travelling towards two dogs (a large white dog and a brown Rhodesian Ridgeback) which were on the street. The car is alleged to have struck one of the dogs causing unknown injuries (this dog was not later found).

The man is then alleged to have performed a u-turn before accelerating towards the two dogs once again, however not making contact with either of them on the second attempt.

After police attendance, a Rhodesian Ridgeback was located with a resident in Boddington Street, but the white dog which had been struck could not be found. As a result of information received, officers have shortly after located the 55-year-old male driver and spoke to him regarding the incident.

He will appear in the Mackay Magistrates Court on September 12 to have the matters heard.
