Armed person appeal, Nerang

Police investigating an incident at a Nerang shopping centre yesterday have released images of a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

Around 5.45pm, a man attended the Station Street shopping centre and became involved in a verbal altercation with three other men.

A short time later the man stole two knives from a nearby supermarket after striking and damaging a plastic display cabinet inside the store.

As the man walked from the supermarket and into the shopping centre he was questioned by a security guard about the theft of the knives.

The man started to walk away before turning around and throwing one of the knives at the security guard. The knife landed on the ground near the security guard’s feet.

The security guard followed the man as he continued to walk into the carpark, where he requested he hand over the other knife.

The man then threatened the security guard before throwing the knife towards him and fleeing in a vehicle parked nearby.

He is described as being Caucasian in appearance, around 178cm tall, aged between 25-27 years, with short blonde/brown hair, medium build, last seen wearing a white t-shirt with a black anchor on the back, white shorts, and red and white adidas shoes.

The man also has a sleeve tattoo on his right arm and a tattoo on his lower right leg.

The vehicle is described as a white Mitsubishi station wagon with Queensland registration 032TYM.

No one was injured as result of the incident.

Police are appealing for public assistance, particularly anyone who was in the carpark that may have mobile phone or dashcam footage, to contact them.

Anyone who observed the man or witnessed these incidents is also asked to contact police to help identify him.
