Bad night for one P-plater, Mareeba
A 22-year-old Chillagoe man was charged on Friday night after being intercepted on the Kennedy Highway, Mareeba, at about 7:45pm.
It will be alleged the P1 driver was exceeding the speed limit after being detected doing 142 km/h in 100km/h zone.
It will also be alleged that when required to provide a roadside breath test, he returned a positive reading of 0.111 per cent BAC.
But the night didn’t get any better for the man after having his vehicle checked and being found to be defective, with a battery sitting not secured in the engine bay.
This was the man’s third speeding offence he also had his vehicle immobilised for 90 days.
He is expected to appear in the Mareeba Magistrates Court on September 25, charged with driving a defective vehicle, contravening a direction, drink driving and speeding.
