Cairns overnight crime wrap, October 5

Property charges, Cairns: Police have charged a 19-year-old White Rock man overnight with two counts each of burglary, stealing, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, driving of a motor vehicle without a driver licence and one count each of receiving tainted property and fail to stop motor vehicle.

Police have also charged a 21-year-old Bentley Park man with one count each of stealing, fail to stop motor vehicle and driving whilst over the general alcohol limit.

It will be alleged the men committed the offences in several locations including Palm Cove, Clifton Beach, Woree, Gordonvale and Innisfail.

The two men were located in Ingham where they were taken into custody by Ingham Police and subsequently charged.

One of the men is scheduled to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court today, whilst the second male will appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on October 27.

Assault and obstruct police, Manunda: Overnight police have charged a 25-year-old Manunda man with two counts of assaulting police and one count each of obstructing police and possessing a dangerous drug.

It will be alleged that around 12am, the man was involved in a disturbance at a Manunda address where he was later detained by police.

At this time the man has resisted violently, striking out at police with one of the male officers being punched in the side of the face.

The officer received minor injuries as result.

Officers managed to restrain the man after a taser deployment and he was conveyed to the Cairns Watch House.

He is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on October 20.

Vehicle theft charges, Manunda: A 16-year-old girl has been charged after she was allegedly located in a stolen vehicle at Manunda around 11:30pm last night.

Police conducting patrols in the area saw the damaged vehicle parked in at an address in Olive Street.

Officers parked nearby and approached the vehicle where they allegedly located the female sitting in the driver’s seat.

Police will allege that the vehicle was stolen earlier from Sturt Street residence in Bungalow.

The girl was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlicenced driving and two counts of wilful damage.
