Traffic crash, Cairns North:  An investigation is underway into a traffic incident that occurred on Lake Street early this morning.

Preliminary investigations indicate a 20-year-old woman was walking northbound on Lake Street at around 2.30am when she stepped in the path of a moving taxi cab and was struck.

She was treated at the scene before being transported to the Cairns Hospital where she remains in a stable condition.

The Cairns Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the incident. 

Youths charged over property offences, Cairns:  A 16-year-old Manunda youth was charged yesterday following investigations into a number of property matters.

It will be alleged the boy committed offences including the theft of a bicycle from a CBD shopping centre, stealing money from businesses at Redlynch and the Cairns CBD, breaking and entering a charity store and stealing donation boxes, and other incidents.

Cairns Property Crime Squad officers located the youth at his Manunda residence yesterday morning and he was taken into custody.

He was charged with four counts of stealing and one count each of break and enter a premises and stealing, fraud and possession of a drug utensil.

The charges relate to offences allegedly committed at Cairns City, Parramatta Park, Redlynch, and Manunda between August 10 and yesterday. 

Officers also charged a 17-year-old Bentley Park woman with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and two counts of entering premises with intent following investigations into incidents at Trinity Park on August 29.

It will be alleged she gained entry to two vehicles with intent to steal property and also unlawfully used a vehicle which had been stolen during a burglary offence.

The woman is expected to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on October 5.
