Police vehicle rammed in attempted intercept, Buchan’s Point: A 20-year-old man from the Mossman area remains at large after driving a stolen four-wheel-drive into a police vehicle near Buchan’s Point yesterday.

The stolen vehicle was sighted travelling south on the Captain Cook Highway yesterday and police set up an intercept site near the Buchan’s Point car park area shortly after 1pm.

It will be alleged that as the man approached in the stolen utility, he rammed into a parked police vehicle and drove around the intercept site before continuing south on the highway and evading officers.

The police car sustained significant damage as a result of the incident and was towed from the scene. Officers were not in the vehicle when it was struck.

The male driver is currently being sought by police as a person of interest in relation to a number of investigations. He is described as being a Caucasian male aged 20 and of proportionate build. He has a tanned complexion, brown eyes and brown hair.

The man is believed to be driving a 2005 Toyota Land Cruiser utility which was stolen from Wonga Beach on August 17. The vehicle is grey in colour and has a camping type body fitted to the tray.

Burglary and other charges, Edmonton: Police have charged a 16-year-old Edmonton boy following investigations into a number of burglary incidents.

It will be alleged the boy gained entry to a residence in Claderia Street between August 6 and 10 and stole a bicycle.

It will be further alleged that on August 26 he entered a Piccone Drive house and stole a purse from a vehicle parked in the garage.

The boy was located on Del Manso Crescent at Edmonton just after 2pm yesterday and taken into custody. He was charged with one count each of burglary, entering a dwelling with intent, entering premises and stealing and possession of a drug utensil.

Drug charges, Woree: A 24-year-old Portsmith man was charged early yesterday morning following a vehicle intercept in Woree.

Officers were conducting inquires in Rigg Street at around 12.15am when they intercepted a vehicle being driven by the man. A search of the vehicle allegedly resulted in the location of a small quantity of amphetamine.

He was charged with possession of a dangerous drug and is expected to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on September 13.
