Significant arrest, Holloways Beach: A 30-year-old Holloways Beach man who had been sought in connection with a number of investigations was arrested and charged yesterday.
Police attended an address in Poinciana Street at Holloways Beach at around 5pm yesterday and the man fled from the residence on foot.
Officers then gave chase through suburban yards and apprehended the man in Alamanda Street shortly afterward where he was taken into custody.
He was charged with a total of 34 offences comprising one count each of obstructing police, possession of a drug utensil and stealing, two counts each of burglary, possession of a dangerous drug and evading a taxi fare, three counts of entering premises and stealing, seven counts of breaching bail conditions, and 15 counts of fraud.
The charges relate to offences allegedly committed at Smithfield, Cairns North, Cairns City, Westcourt and Holloways Beach between June 10 and August 22.
The man is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court later this morning.
Assault charge, Weipa: A 37-year-old Mapoon man was charged yesterday following an incident at a Weipa bottle shop on August 12.
It will be alleged that the man entered the Commercial Avenue business just before 2pm on that date and abused a male staff member. The man was subsequently refused service and asked to leave the store.
It will be further alleged that he then made verbal threats toward the staff member and approached him whilst threatening physical violence.
The man was then escorted from the store by another male associate and the incident was subsequently reported to police.
Inquiries led detectives to a Mapoon address yesterday afternoon where the man was taken into custody.
He was charged with one count each of common assault, failing to leave a licenced premise, and committing a public nuisance offence. He is due to appear in the Weipa Magistrates Court on September 12.
