Nine charged over burglaries and vehicle thefts, Cairns area: Investigations into a number of burglary offences where vehicles were stolen resulted in the arrest and charging of nine youths yesterday.

First response officers located seven youths at an Earlville address at around 7:30am yesterday and they were taken into custody.

It will be alleged the group was involved in the forced entry of a home at Trinity Park in the early hours of yesterday morning where keys, a handbag and two vehicles were stolen.

One vehicle was located at around 7am near the intersection of Gommory Close and Lissner Crescent at Earlville and the second at around 9am, dumped in Saltwater Creek at Edge Hill. Both vehicles were significantly damaged.

The group of seven comprised two boys aged 13 from Bungalow and Woree, a 14-year-old boy from Woree, a 15-year-old boy from Bentley Park, a 17-year old boy from Westcourt, and two girls aged 14 and 17 from Edmonton and Bentley Park.

They were charged with a total of 19 offences including burglary, unlawful use of motor vehicles, unlicensed driving, stealing and wilful damage.

In a separate investigation, two Mooroobool boys aged 15 were charged in relation to a burglary offence at Smithfield on Sunday night where keys, cigarettes, a handbag and a car was stolen.

The offenders attempted to steal one vehicle from the garage and crashed it onto the garage wall. They then got into a second vehicle and drove off. That vehicle was subsequently located in a damaged condition on McIllwraith Street at Manoora just after 5pm yesterday.

Police attended residences in Mooroobool yesterday evening and the two youths were taken into custody.

They were charged with a total of 14 offences comprising burglary, unlicensed driving, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, stealing and trespass.
