Cairns Police Communications Centre relocated and upgraded

Chief Superintendent Brett Schafferius and Member for Barron Rivers, Craig Crawford MP officially opened the renovated and upgraded Cairns Police Communication Centre (PCC).

Funded as part of the Police Communications Capability Development Program, the Cairns PCC was relocated to the ground level of the Cairns Police Station in order to provide more floor space and state of the art furniture.

Chief Superintendent Schafferius said the upgrade was required to optimise the operational effectiveness of the PCC.

“The new centre takes advantage of technology and improved business practices to provide a more effective emergency service and police response to the Cairns community,” Chief Superintendent Schafferius said.

“Too often our PCC staff go without the recognition they deserve as they are not on the frontline, yet they have difficult jobs acting as the link between the community and police assistance.

“It is really important that we as a Service recognise the ways these staff serve their community and provide them with facilities which support them in doing this to the best of their ability.”

The Police Communication Centres across the state are emergency hubs for Queensland.

The Cairns PCC team consists of 14 police officers and 19 communication operators who work 24 hours a day taking calls for assistance from the public and providing police officers with time critical information.
