Two men charged over property crime spree, Cooktown: Two men aged 18 and 20 have been charged following investigations into a series of property related offences between Cairns and Cooktown during the past fortnight.

The pair, from Mareeba and Edmonton, were arrested at a Hopevale residence at around 2:30pm on Saturday afternoon and transported to the Cooktown Police Station.

They were each charged with 22 offences comprising multiple counts of burglary, unlawful use of motor vehicles, stealing, entering premises and stealing, fraud and entering a dwelling with intent.

The charges relate to offences allegedly committed at Cooktown, Mareeba, Mount Molloy, Palm Cove and Cairns between August 16 and 26.

Both men are scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court later this morning.

Boy charged over property and fraud offences, Cairns: Police charged a 13-year-old Manunda boy on Saturday following investigations into a number of incidents.

It will be alleged a Parramatta Park business premise was entered on May 11 and a wallet and phone belonging to an employee stolen. The cards located in the wallet were then used to withdraw money from the victim’s account.

It is also alleged the administration office of a Manunda educational facility was entered on May 19 and a phone stolen.

It is further alleged that on three occasions between August 7 and 12, the youth stole money from coin boxes at two Cairns shopping centres.

Officers from the Cairns Property Crime Squad located the boy at a Manunda address at around 7pm on Saturday and he was taken into custody.

He was charged with three counts of stealing, two counts of entering premises and stealing and one count of fraud.

Indecent treatment charge, Cairns: Detectives have charged a man in his forties with one count of indecent treatment of a child under 16 after a girl was allegedly sent a photograph of a man’s genitals via a mobile phone.

Detectives from the Cairns Child Protection Investigation Unit arrested the man at a Cairns North residence yesterday.

He is expected to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court later this morning.
