Arson and other charges, Freshwater:  Detectives investigating a suspicious fire at a Freshwater apartment complex last Thursday night have charged a 31-year-old Edge Hill man.

It will be alleged that an apartment in the Old Smithfield Road complex was broken into around 11pm on Thursday and a fire was started inside. The blaze destroyed the contents of the unit before spreading into the roof cavity, causing significant damage to the building.

Officers spoke with a man at a McLeod Street address at around 10.30am on Friday and he was taken into custody.

He was charged with one count each of burglary, arson and stalking and has been remanded to reappear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on November 8.

Property charges, Bentley Park:  A 16-year-old Bungalow boy was charged yesterday as part of investigations into a burglary at Bentley Park on September 11.

It will be alleged that entry was gained to a Caesar Street residence in the early hours of that morning and a wallet and car keys were stolen. The offenders then stole a sedan from the garage area.

Police located the stolen car parked on Robert Road at Bentley Park at around 3.30am the following day and the vehicle was seized for forensic examination.

Officers from the Cairns Property Crime Squad located the boy yesterday evening and he was taken into custody.

He was charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlicensed driving and trespass. Investigations are continuing.

Indecent assault incident, Cairns City:  A 13-year-old Atherton boy was charged last night following an alleged assault in the Cairns CBD.

It will be alleged a 28-year-old woman was walking along Sheridan Street at around 10.20pm when a boy ran up from behind and assaulted the victim before fleeing on foot.

She was not physically injured as a result of the incident.

Police observed the incident on the City Safe security system and a short time later a boy was taken into custody.

He was subsequently charged with indecent assault.
