Ending the month on a sour note

Ending the month on a sour note

On the last day of August two drivers were stopped by police for travelling in excess of 70 km/h over the posted speed limit.

At 5:52 pm on August 31 police stopped a 2006 model Ford Falcon sedan on the Fitzroy Development Road (near the corner of the Golden Mile Road).

The driver’s speed had been recorded by officers as being 171 km/h in a 100 km/h an hour speed zone.

The 25-year-old male from Bucasia was given a $1177 on the spot fine and will lose six demerit points.

Closer to the coast, at 1:44 pm on the same date police stopped a 2010 E350CD sedan on Peter Delemothe Road in Bowen.

The speed of this car was recorded by police as being 173 km/h in a 100 km/h speed zone.

The driver in this case was an 18-year-old male from Bowen. He was dealt with in exactly the same fashion as the example above.

On no fewer than 20 occasions in the month of August drivers were stopped by police after being caught travelling at speeds in excess of 40 km/h above posted speed limits.

The majority of drivers are responsible and do all that they can to be safe on our roads.

This is a solid reminder that sometimes your fate may be in the hands of others who drive on the roads at the same time as you.

There is little to no chance of any driver being able to stop safely in an emergent situation at speeds any where close to these examples – collisions are almost guaranteed.

Your speed is your choice.
