Evade police, Smithfield

Police are investigating an evade police incident in Smithfield this afternoon.

At approximately 12.20pm, plain clothes police officers and uniformed officers were at a local hardware store on Mount Milman Drive when they identified and attempted to intercept four boys, as they got into a vehicle in the store carpark.

A marked police car pulled up behind the vehicle at which time the driver reversed into the stationary police car, causing minor front end damage.

As police approached the vehicle in an effort to arrest the occupants, a 31-year-old male police officer’s foot was run over. He is currently receiving treatment to assess the extent of his injuries.

Four boys aged between 14 and 16 years are currently assisting police with their investigations.
