Eyes on burglaries, Mackay Police District
From October 23 to October 29 there were at least 11 burglaries reported across the Mackay Police District (which stretches from St Lawrence to Bowen and out west to Clermont).
This includes residential locations and businesses.
- The majority of these reported offences occurred in the Mackay police division – at least two occurred in other areas (Blacks Beach and Dysart)
- Burglars continue to successfully seek out homes which are not secured – EG unlocked or windows open. One example being that a burglar checked the back door of a home, found door keys still hanging and accessible, removed the keys and used them to unlock the locked front door to gain entry. Simple security measures continue to be the best deterrent in most cases – lock your doors and secure your windows as a matter of habit.
- From the 11 burglaries, on at least two occasions thieves have found car keys easily accessible inside the residence (EG, on a kitchen bench, hanging in a key cabinet) – the keys were used to steal a car from each residence.
- Both stolen cars have since been located by police – one unfortunately was destroyed by fire.
Police are very motivated to catch those responsible for breaking into our homes and businesses as well as stealing our cars. We encourage you to report any suspicious behaviour that you witness – the time of day is not important, you can report suspicious behaviour any time of the day. Triple zero (000) is the correct method of reporting if the matter is urgent or happening NOW.
