Get ready Townsville – be prepared for storm season

Get ready Townsville – be prepared for storm season

The northern storm season is upon us and BoM have predicted multiple weather events again this season including several cyclones. The recent rain in Townsville, with the hope of more to come, will bring much relief to the area.

The Townsville District Disaster Coordinator Chief Superintendent Kevin Guteridge encourages everyone to be prepared at all times for disasters and to use this time as a reminder to check plans are well in place to “Get Ready” for the season.

While we have no control over the weather, we can reduce the impact on us as individuals, our families and our community. Make sure that you and your family know your ‘what if plan’ so you can ensure there are contingencies in place. Waiting for emergency services to come to you, or calling triple zero, during a catastrophic weather event does not constitute a plan. Early preparation and planning will help keep you safe.

Further information about household emergency plans, emergency kits, storm tide zones, your evacuation plans, what to do with pets/animals and other useful information is available on the Townsville City Council website here or the Queensland Government ‘Get Ready’ website here.
