Gold Coast police rev up for road safety campaign, Operation North Upright
Gold Coast police are joining forces with other government agencies for a motorcycle safety campaign as part of Road Safety Week.
Today in the Gold Coast hinterland, the sixth instalment of Operation North Upright will be conducted to raise awareness of the potential risks for motorcyclists using the hinterland roads.
Motorcyclists enjoying the area are invited to stop for a chat about road safety with experienced motorcycle officers from the Road Policing Command and other emergency services.
Gold Coast District Acting Senior Sergeant Graeme Reeves said community engagement is an important part of the operation.
“We really want to educate riders about safe riding techniques through displays, demonstrations, and discussions,” Senior Sergeant Reeves said.
“This event is also about the motorcycle enthusiast community having a chance to talk to police, to share their concerns and ask questions.
“Road safety is for everyone and we hope operations like this generate a positive message in the community around road safety.”
Members of the public who speak with police today will receive a raffle ticket to go in the draw to win:
• 1st prize – Shark helmet
• 2nd prize – Male dryrider jacket
• 3rd prize – Female dryrider jacket
The raffle will be drawn at the Nerang Police Station on August 28.
