GPS tracks stolen vehicle
Thieves who stole a vehicle from Charters Towers in the early hours of Tuesday morning didn’t know their every move was being recorded by the GPS tracker installed in the vehicle.
Acting Senior Sergeant Tony Jacobs from the Townsville Rapid Action and Patrols said having this technology in the vehicle assisted police in knowing every move the vehicle made, places it went to, the time it spent there and the eventual recovery of the vehicle.
“If every vehicle was fitted with a similar tracking device this would greatly assist police and owners to locate vehicles when reported missing,” Acting Senior Sergeant Jacobs said.
Valuable intelligence was also gathered and connected the thieves to other offences they committed whilst travelling in the vehicle between Charters Towers and Townsville.
