Hailfax Station’s Golden Ticket initiative wins QLD Road Safety Week Government Award
Senior Constable Shelley Millns from Halifax Station has been awarded for her initiative for road safety. Senior Constable Millns is the 2017 winner of the Queensland Road Safety Government Award for her Golden Tickets project which gave officers the ability to award drivers with a Golden Ticket for doing the right thing.
Over an eight month period, Halifax Police had been issuing and rewarding drivers Golden Tickets. These Golden Tickets were only issued to drivers going above and beyond for road safety, and for those drivers seen to be taking safe actions regarding the Fatal Five, for example being visibly off the road using mobile phones.
Drivers were given a shiny Golden Ticket which was printed with the Fatal Five and a thank you message from Halifax Police. As well as a thank you for doing the right thing, the tickets were an entry into a prize draw to win a $2000 TV and sound package donated by the Department of Traffic and Main Roads. They were also given food and drink vouchers donated by McDonald’s Ingham.
Senior Constable Millns wants to continue with this initiative as she believes that drivers should be continually encouraged for doing the right thing whilst behind the wheel.
