Handbag and cash stolen from customer exiting store, South Mackay

As a female customer walked out of a store on Milton Street in South Mackay holding her handbag an opportunistic thief has struck.

At 3:20pm on August 14, the thief has grabbed the handbag from behind the female and attempted to take it from her – but the female did not let go.

In an effort to retain possession she has lost her balance and fallen to the ground. While on the ground the thief has dragged the female along the ground before dropping his knees into her lower back causing her to release the handbag.

The thief then ran with the beige coloured handbag and contents (cash and a ZTE mobile phone) towards James Street.

At this time of day, police normally expect there to be a considerable amount of vehicle and pedestrian traffic in the area due to a nearby school.
